(Silver Spring, MD) Donna Mazyck will become the National Association of School Nurses’ Executive Director on October 19, 2011.
Ms. Mazyck is a past President of NASN’s Board of Directors. Her employment for the past 13 years has been with the Maryland State Department of Education, where she served as Chief of the School Health Section, State School Nurse Consultant and School-based Health Center Specialist. She holds national certification in school nursing and counseling, and brings a wealth of experience to NASN.
Ms. Mazyck has been a firm advocate for student health and school nursing throughout her career. “Every child deserves a school nurse, all day, every day,” said Mazyck. "School nurses stand in the intersection of health care and education providing essential individual student health services and school-wide health activities that facilitate student well-being and academic success,” continued Mazyck.
As the leading worldwide expert for school health services, NASN provides state-of-the-art school health educational resources and advocates on the national level for the health of students. Ms. Mazyck will steer the association’s activities to reflect the role of school nurses in shaping school policies which promote and protect the health of students. “The school nurse’s role has become increasingly more diverse as children today face more complex and life threatening health problems requiring care in school,” says NASN President Linda Davis-Alldritt. “Ms. Mazyck’s unique experience will help NASN support the school nursing profession so school nurses can ensure children stay healthy, in school and ready to learn.”
